Sports Aptitude Places

10% of our places are allocated to children who have the potential to succeed at a high level in sport.

If your child demonstrates a high level of performance in physical activity and sport, you can apply for a sports aptitude place. You need to apply for a sports aptitude place by Friday 13th September 2024.

As part of the application process, children will have an opportunity to demonstrate their sporting aptitude. You can find further information on the sports aptitude assessment and how places are allocated below.

Assessment

The assessment for applications under the Sports aptitude criteria will include:

  • psychomotor tests
  • fundamental skills tests
  • health and fitness assessments

Assessment is through a variety of health-related and skills-based fitness tests. Standardised scores are awarded for performance in each of the tests and the scores are tallied. When all of the tests have been completed, a rank order of applicants is produced, with the highest-scoring applicants ranking first.

How Sports Aptitude places are allocated

Sports Aptitude places will be allocated to either:

  1. The top scoring 10% of students based on a series of internationally recognised and standardised physical tests, to determine potential to succeed at a high level in Sport. The physical tests will measure aerobic endurance, speed, power, agility, coordination and flexibility. The physical tests are generic and measure aptitude across a range of sports for which the Academy has expertise and facilities. Each applicant will be awarded a standardised score with the applicants with the highest scores being allocated places based on sporting aptitude.
  2. Should fewer than 10% of applications based on sporting aptitude either be received or be deemed unsuitable for admittance on sporting aptitude, then places will continue to be allocated using the remaining criteria.

Applicants applying who are from multiple birth are not guaranteed a space should one or more not fall into the above criteria. This means that one could be offered a space and the other(s) not.

The assessment activities are generic and measure aptitude across a range of sports-related skills as achieved on the day of the test; there is no test of academic ability and current or previous membership of sports clubs/teams, at whatever level, is not part of the awarding criteria.

Scores allocated to individual applicants on the basis of the activities undertaken during the aptitude testing process will be made available to parents within two weeks of the final test taking place.

We welcome applications for places at Windsor Olympus Academy under the sporting aptitude criteria from applicants of all academic abilities, including those with special educational needs.

By applying to take part in the sports aptitude tests, applicants are deemed to have accepted all of the arrangements outlined above.

By making an application, applicants and their parents/carers are making a commitment to full involvement in the sports curriculum and extra-curricular programme of the school.

Successful applicants will be expected to attend targeted extra-curricular clubs and give priority to representing the school in track, field and/or team events as a sports team member.

Successful applicants will be expected to work hard in all academic subjects as well as at a wide range of sporting activities.

The school encourages all students to achieve their full potential and successful sports aptitude applicants will be supported in their sporting skills to levels of excellence, within the context of the education of the whole child.

A partnership between home and school is therefore essential if each applicant admitted under the sports aptitude criteria is to succeed to the best of their ability in all aspects of their education.
